Who here watched the presidential debate last night? I did.
Well I did for about a half hour. Then I had to turn it off.
For the half hour though I witnessed two grown - senior - men bicker, fight, complain, and otherwise act like a complete and total ass's.
I thought to myself. "This can't be it. This can't be the best we have. There has to be something more. Can we just write in anyone else to become president?"
I don't want to say I was embarrassed by the way they both acted. I was more disappointed at what our country has become.
And even after that I did what I shouldn't have done... gone on social media to see what the masses were saying.
I know that we must vote. That voting will help encourage change and hopefully usher in a new age of prosperity. But at this point we are voting not for the best candidate, we are voting for the lesser of two evils.
I see on social media - people on both sides of the political line - endorsing "their" candidate. They are praising them for the job they have done, for the job they will do. And I am just thinking to myself. "Why the hell are we settling?" "Why are we bringing down our standards to fit what we have in front of us?"
In my eyes we should be protesting our government. Because for me, neither one of these candidates are fit to be president. They should not be representing America as our leader.
We shouldn't be arguing against each other, we should be uniting in an effort to fix this broken system we have.
At least that's the hope I have for the future. Too many of us are stuck in our own ways. Thinking that what is presented in front of us is all we can choose from.
That kind of thinking is wrong. And that's why we are in the situation we are in.
I don't want to dissuade you from voting. Go out and vote! It is a must, and it is your right to do so. Do not give up your rights. Because if you do they will end up taking more away from you in the long run.
Stand up for what you believe in.
And I don't know how, but help me change this country, help me change this world for something we can be proud of. Something we would be happy to raise our children and grandchildren in.
