Why I Lead Myself

We all look for inspiration out there in the world. Just look at the rise of the "influencer" into mainstream everything.

I mean what the hell is an influencer anyways?

It's someone we allow to inspire us to act, feel, think, a certain way. Let me say that again. WE ALLOW them to do this. We let them influence us towards decisions that aren't our own. Mostly for a result that does not benefit us.

You wouldn't need to be "influenced" into anything if you stood for something. To have the ability to stand on your own two feet means you need to have a great amount of self awareness, and have gone through a lot of self reflection.

You need to be in tune with yourself in order to know and understand that you don't need the things people are trying to "influence" you to buy, or influence you to think and act, or to influence you to become.

When you can spend more time in yourself. You will start to realize that all these material possessions. All of these things, this stuff. You don't actually need it. This illusion that was created. "Keeping up with the Jones's." Was created to get people to buy more because someone else has it, or someone else looks more affluent, or sophisticated, or they have it all figured out and are living the time of their lives.

I am not here to bash having stuff. If that is what makes you happy, and content. Then do you. All I am saying is that you don't need that stuff, and you definitely don't need it because someone else has it.

You don't need the new iphone because your friends have it or because it's the latest model. If; However, you use it for it's photo features, or because it has faster speed to be able to run your business on the go, or helps you enjoy your hobbies more. Then by all means have at it.

Buying a new vehicle doesn't need to happen if you are doing it to show off, or because other people have new vehicles, and you want to feel wealthy. Especially if the one you are driving now is perfectly fine. Gets you from point A to point B. Doesn't cost you much, and will last a long time.

Don't let others influence you to do things that you wouldn't normally do, or act in ways you wouldn't normally act.

At this point in your life you NEED to be able to stand on your own. You MUST be a mountain. Standing tall and firm in your space because you know that's where you belong, and not because someone else told you you need to be there.

To be able to do that again you must spend a good amount of time with yourself developing the abilities of self reflection and self awareness. To be able to be self aware and reflect inwardly you need to dabble in the self help and personal development areas of life. You need to learn how to access your own thoughts. How to quiet the world around you. Also, how to gain the confidence needed to stand your ground, but at the same time, while you are being that mountain. You also need to be like water.

Bruce Lee said it best:

Empty your mind; be formless, shapeless – like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup, you put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle, you put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.

As a mountain stand firms in it's place. Water flows freely. You need to be both. Stand firm when the moment calls for it, but also act like water. Fill the cup, fill the tea pot, fill the bottle, but also crash upon the rocks when the moment arises.

This might sound like a lot to handle. Let me tell you that once you start to listen to yourself. You start to form your own ideas, and opinions. You start to do your own research, you start to listen to your heart instead of your mind.

You will see that acting like a mountain and like water at the same time is actually easy.

Another way of describing how that works is called Leadership.

Yes that's right, leadership. It is so much more than being in charge and telling people what to do and what not to do. Leadership comes with a myriad of emotions, self awareness, respect, demeanor, tact, and humbleness (amongst other traits).

Before you can lead others you must be able to lead yourself.

In order to be able to lead yourself you must become self aware and reflective.

See it all ties together. To live a content life you must be a master of yourself, and that can only be done through learning or yourself. Inside and out. When you are able to master yourself you will not be swayed by outside influencers, because they hold no power over you or your mind. Then you will be able to lead others.

Full circle.

That's why I lead myself. Quite honestly I am the perfect person to lead myself. Who else knows me better than me?

The same goes for you. No one else knows you better than you do. When you take the time to listen to yourself you will understand that concept. That will also be the start of your journey towards being that mountain that can also flow like water.
